Sacramento County, CA — Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said today that news that Iran is demanding a cash payment of $4 million for another American taken hostage once again proves that those who voted for the dangerous Iran deal and subsequent votes in favor of giving cash to Iran – including Congressman Ami Bera on both counts – only emboldened the outlaw regime.
“As I’ve consistently said, Congressman Bera’s votes put Americans at greater risk and made the entire Middle East less safe,” said Sheriff Jones. “Rewarding an outlaw regime that sponsors terrorism with cash payments was both morally and strategically wrong, and places American’s around the world at greater risk. Ami Bera is reckless when it comes to protecting America and her allies.”
Congressman Ami Bera voted in favor of the Iran deal and recently opposed a bipartisan measure to stop cash payment to Iran. Sheriff Jones has always opposed the Iran deal and has said that sanctions were working and the U.S. should have toughened them.
United States Congressman Ed Royce, the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said that news that Iran is demanding at least $4 million for the safe return of a U.S. resident confirms fears that the Obama Administration’s cash payments to Iran have encouraged the outlaw regime to take more hostages.
“Just as I feared, the Iranian regime now has more American hostages and wants more money,” Congressman Royce said. “Iran should release all American hostages immediately and unconditionally.”
Sheriff Jones and Congressman Bera are locked in a tight battle for the 7th congressional district, a top target for both parties.
