“Like many Americans, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time in the last 24 hours reflecting on this presidential race, and like most I’m extremely disheartened by the choices we have been given. Both candidates in my estimation have significant character flaws, and I find that I share few values with either of them. It has been important to me during the course of this presidential campaign and my own to pursue conservative principles because I feel this country is on the wrong track. As such, despite the personal flaws of the candidate, I have been willing to support the Republican nominee chosen by the people to carry these principles to the White House.
“However, I have a wife, a mother, and two daughters. I have also spent my law enforcement career standing up for righteousness and giving a voice to those who are unable or unwilling to speak for themselves. Mr. Trump’s comments that were disclosed yesterday discuss conduct which is at best disgusting, and at worst criminal. I can no longer explain to my daughters why I am voting for Mr. Trump. As such, I will be voting for neither candidate for President. Each of us must look within ourselves and make the decision that is right for them, and I certainly respect differing viewpoints, but this decision is what is right for me.
“Now, perhaps more than ever, it is important to have a Congress that will stand up to the President when needed, whoever she or he might be. I want to assure voters that I will be that independent voice, and will continue to fight as I always have for the people that have entrusted me with their vote.”
