Sacramento County, CA – The race in California’s 7th congressional district is too close to call, with an estimated 90,000 to 100,000 ballots left to count and Ami Bera ahead by just over one percentage point.
“I am very grateful to the voters of the 7th district. With so many ballots left to count, the race is far from over and it may not be until next week or later that we know the outcome. The most important thing is for every vote to be counted,” said Sheriff Scott Jones.
While Bera won early absentees, Scott Jones received approximately 53% of the votes cast on Election Day. The 90,000 to 100,000 ballots left to count either arrived by mail on Election Day, were dropped off at the polls on Election Day or were cast provisionally on Election Day. Ballots postmarked on Election Day that arrive by Monday, November 14, will be counted.
“We feel confident going into the final counting that Scott has an excellent chance of making up the current margin and emerging with a victory,” said Jones’ consultant Dave Gilliard.
